The first time our son was on a bike with training wheels, we shouted, "Push back on the pedals and the bike will brake!" He nodded but still rode straight into a bush. "Why didn't you push back on the pedals?" We asked, helping him up. "You said if I did, the bike would break." A Christian trying to understand Hinduism is a lot like our son learning to ride a bike. Explanations shared have very different meanings. While Hinduism is one of the world's five largest religions, and while one out of every seven people in the world are Hindu, its spiritual teachings are confusing to non-Hindus. That is why we've partnered with the Center for Interfaith Cooperation and Indiana Interchurch Center this summer to host an interfaith summer camp for youth to practice playful and artistic ways of sharing, and learning the faiths of fellow youth (Christians, Hindus, Muslims, Jews, and Buddhists). For that reason, Jeevan Lal's "Gandharva" (above), or Hindu musical deities is the NEWS OF WEEK.
