Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine: A Missionary Position, self portrait
CALIFORNIA---As Africa continues to wrestle with issues of human and religious freedom, a Ugandan American artist Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine has taken his message on the international road with "A Missionary Position." Time Out London, a gay newspaper called the production, “wired, vivid and insistent” when he performed in England. Today is the final show, of a previously postponed production at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. It's a multimedia solo work that is a searing response to the rampant homophobia now gripping Uganda where he portrays riveting figures including a gay priest and a lesbian activist.
