NEW YORK -- An early Italian Renaissance altarpiece is being displayed in its entirety for the first time in 200 years in "The Adoration of the Magi by Bartolo di Fredi: A Masterpiece Reconstructed", on view through September 9, 2012 at the Museum of Biblical Art. Created by Bartolo di Fredi (1330-1410) during the golden age of Sienese painting, it is considered his masterpiece. Dismantled prior to 1816, the central portion remained in Siena, while other components entered collections in Germany and the United States. The exhibition is traveling to only two locations in the United States, coming to New York from the University of Virginia Art Museum, in Charlottesville, where it was also the subject of an international conference.
